Les Vardes House plans given the go ahead

Wednesday 19 June 2019

A local firm has been granted planning permission to give Les Vardes House - formerly home to the Committee for Home Affairs - a "new lease of life".

Esher Investment's plans for the site in La Charroterie were accepted by the States of Guernsey last week, and the company has not delayed in getting work underway.

A number of changes are being made to the office building, including the transformation of its ground floor from an internal garage to larger offices and an improved entrance.

Onsite parking will still be available though, as Esher Investment plans to demolish a neighbouring "asbestos-clad" weld shed to allow space for cars.

The planning approval also allows the firm to install air conditioning and a heat pump in the office building.

"We genuinely believe that the proposed works over these properties will not only improve the offices to modern standards, but in its entirety provide a general improvement to the street scene," said company representative John Lewis.

Refurbishment works are already underway with the net internal area of the building expected to increase to more than 4,600 sq. ft.

The detached office building will be available for lease later this year.
