Le Rondin students design school's new kit

Budding footballers at Le Rondin have put their own creative spin on the school team's new kit.

The primary school, which is purpose-built for children with a wide range of learning difficulties, approached a local creative agency about a new kit early last year.

It was the team at Oi Guernsey that suggested the pupils themselves get involved in the project.

A brief was set for Year Five students to design a new logo for the football team - the Lions. Oi then held a workshop with the children to help refine their ideas and designs.

The shortlisted logo ideas were set to computer graphics by the company's creative team, who eventually came up with the final, workable versions for the strip.

Staff and pupils were invited to the agency to watch the final logo take shape, look around the workspace, meet the team and find out a bit more about what advertising agencies do. They also had the chance to try out Oi's metal slide, which links the upstairs offices to the conference area downstairs.

Oi has agreed to sponsor the full strip, which includes hats, hoodies, tops, shorts and socks. It was presented to the school at a special assembly on Monday, which was attended by Guernsey Football Club Coach Tony Vance and the Former Head of PE at Le Rondin Rauiri O'Neill.

GFC's Roary the Lion was meant to be there too but the mascot couldn't travel in the stormy weather earlier this week so he will pay the school a separate visit on another occasion.

"Le Rondin is a superb school for children with learning disabilities," said Oi Chief Executive Officer, Peter Grange. "When Rauiri asked for some help, we thought it was a fantastic idea.

The team has really loved meeting the kids and working with them, but for me personally, I'm glad to have been able to give something back to Le Rondin as they were instrumental in giving my own daughter the confidence and abilities she has today."

Mr O'Neill added: "We're so very grateful for the support from Peter and the team at Oi. The students put everything into the design process and, with a little help and guidance, created a logo which perfectly embodies the Le Rondin spirit - one of courage, bravery and strength."
