Le Grand Bouet closure extended... again!

Friday 11 October 2019

Le Grand Bouet - which was originally due to reopen at the beginning of the month - will be closed for an extra week.

Guernsey Water began its most recent bout of works on the road's sewer on 3 September, expecting it to take around five weeks.

However, technical issues have now led to two extensions with the road due to reopen on 21 October.

"It is with regret that we extend this closure further," said Guernsey Water's Capital Deliver Manager. "The works we are undertaking at Le Grand Bouet are complex, challenging and onerous, involving the removal of a damaged section of cured liner from the sewer. Those in similar businesses will appreciate the restrictions and technical challenges that come with confined space working. The need to undertake these works safely, without undue risk to those working underground in harsh conditions, has been a top priority."

The utility confirmed the damaged section of the liner has been successfully removed from the sewer, while work has begun on the final section of relining works.

"Due to the nature of the work, we are required to plan around the weather," added Mr Walker. "Guernsey's wastewater network is very reactive to rain, therefore a weather window is essential to ensure we are not working against flows whilst carrying out the installation.

"We are working closely with Traffic and Highways to ensure the extension does not clash with other closures. We can advise that additional planned works within the area have been deferred in order to limit disruption to islanders."
