Wednesday 11 September 2019

La Mare de Carteret Primary School has been recognised for its "outstanding commitment" to improvement in PE and school sport.

It has been awarded a Distinction in the afPE Quality Mark for Physical Education, which is valid for three years.

The validator commented on the quality of teaching as being good and noted an improving partnership with the Guernsey Sports Commission. They found that Year Three pupils were making continued progress, while children in Year One were able to work independently, cooperatively and competitively, with wet-developed basic skills.

The curriculum provision was described as broad and balanced which work alongside extra-curricular activities.

The visit report concluded by praising Head Teacher, Kim Hutchinson, by recognising her leadership skills and support for the PE subject leader.

"We are incredibly pleased to receive this award," Ms Hutchinson said. "Our comprehensive PE curriculum ensures children take part in a wide variety of different sports and activities for at least two hours a week.

"I would like to thank my staff and in particular, Mrs Hubbard (PE Leader) for their hard work and commitment. Through our exciting school-based and extracurricular provision, and alongside our dedicated Sports Development Officer, they encourage our children to be healthy and active and to achieve positive mental health and wellbeing."

The Association for Physical Education is the only PE Subject Association in the UK. It aims to promote and maintain high standards and safe practice in all levels of PE, school sport and physical activity to impact on students' physical health and emotional wellbeing.
