Kings Road shortcut to be closed to traffic

Thursday 25 April 2019

The States are running a prohibited road trial, meaning cars will no longer be able to use Rue à L'Or in St Peter Port as a shortcut to Kings Road.

Some large vehicles and cars are said to have been entering the narrow two-way at speed from Le Vauquiedor, where the speed limit is 35mph.

After receiving a number of complaints, Traffic and Highway Services has decided to prohibit 'through' traffic in the road for 9 months as a trial.

The temporary regulation will stop vehicles driving along the section of Rue à L'Or between Richmond Avenue and Le Vauquiedor, except for access to premises. The plans aim to improve road safety for pedestrians and cyclists.

It is hoped the reduction in general traffic and all but essential large vehicle movements will make the route more pleasant for vulnerable road users and residents of the area.

Signs warning traffic of the changes will be installed at either end of the prohibited section of the road from Sunday 5 May.

Residents and road users are being encouraged to contact Traffic and Highway Services with any comments during the nine month trial period. You can do that by emailing traffic@gov.gg or calling 243400.
