Julius Baer pledges to support Connect partner charity GROW

Julius Baer Guernsey has pledged to support local charity GROW through the coming year as part of its corporate social responsibility initiative.

The company has purchased a copy of the GROW cookbook for every member of its staff to help raise funds for the charity’s £3m. redevelopment. Employees from Julius Baer have also volunteered their time to help build raised flower beds, working alongside the GROW crew.

GROW - the 2022 charity partner of Express' sister publication Connect - provides training and mentoring for adults with learning disabilities and difficulties in a safe and stimulating environment. It helps them develop self-confidence and life skills and enables them to be included and valued within a workplace and the wider community.

As part of Julius Baer Guernsey’s commitment to supporting GROW throughout the year, volunteer staff assisted at the charity’s open day on 30 April, helping to raise further funds.

Supporting local charities and engaging with GROW allowed Julius Baer’s CSR committee to provide their Guernsey employees with a sustainable welcome pack when they moved into their new Admiral Park premises in February.

Alongside GROW’s cookbook, this included a hemp bag, a reusable water bottle, and a pre-loaded ‘Puffin pass’ for use on Guernsey buses, to encourage a greener alternative to driving to work.

Julius Baer Guernsey Branch Manager, Stephen Burt, said: “At Julius Baer, we recognise the value of supporting great causes like GROW, both to our local community and our employees.

As a branch, we aim to provide 700 hours of volunteering work this year, while our Guernsey staff will be given opportunities to volunteer for GROW and a range of other good causes all year round.”

CSR Committee Chair, Amal Eltasse-Pipet added: “Supporting GROW is a great way to not only give something back to our island home, it also offers our volunteers important physical and mental health benefits. Research has shown that volunteering reduces stress and produces positive emotions.

When paired with the benefits of promoting sustainability and a greener future our CSR activity this year, and particularly our work with GROW, will be beneficial to everyone involved.”

Julius Baer’s CSR committee is also supporting several other good causes. These include sending volunteers to clean up the island’s beaches in June and supporting staff member Adrian Sarchet in his 24-hour swim challenge, which is raising funds to install an assisted-access ramp into the Ladies Pool at the Bathing Pools, and to improve accessibility to the changing rooms and café, including the installation of a lift between the café and upper floor.
