Lottery jackpot now at £595,000

The jackpot in this year's Channel Islands' Christmas Lottery continues to increase and could tip over £600,000 this weekend.

Yesterday it reached £595,000. Tickets are on sale until Thursday when the draw will be made in Jersey.

The prize pot grows as more tickets are sold. In particular, the first prize gets bigger. Second prize is fixed at £50,000. There are also 65 other prizes starting from £500. 

In Guernsey, the Lottery is run by the States' Trading Supervisory Board. Its Senior Lottery Officer, Jon Taylor, says the top prize could still reach last year's jackpot of £696,740.

“The first prize is growing faster now as we enter the final week of sales for the Christmas game," he said. "This is great news for a potential winner or winners. And with the Social Investment Fund now taking applications for funding, local charities can be the winners too.”

The proceeds from the Christmas draw go to charities and other worthy causes throughout the Channel Islands. Guernsey's share of the money will be distributed by the Social Investment Fund, which has taken on the responsibility from the Association of Guernsey Charities.

Guernsey-registered charities or not-for-profit organisations operating within or for the benefit of the Bailiwick can apply for funding through the Social Investment Fund's Small Grants Programme. Each grant is up to £25,000 and can be spent on one-off projects or ongoing expenses lasting up to a year, such as salaries or other running costs.
