It took five years...but Bruce is finally re-homed

Monday 26 April 2021

The GSPCA has said farewell to the largest fish ever in the shelter's care, five years after they started looking after him.

Bruce the giant Plecostomus arrived at the GSPCA in March 2016 and while caring for him, the team have also been trying to find him a forever home.

At over 18 inches in length, his primary carer Yvonne Chauvel said Bruce is the largest fish she has looked after at the GSPCA.

“Bruce is a Plecostomus and spends most of his time relaxing and we really hope he will adore his new home. Bruce wasn’t alone as he went off to his new home with his catfish friends Mr Ray, Sheldon and Flo.”

“They were the last tropical fish at the moment in need of a home at the GSPCA, but we have two tanks of gold fish and two tanks of musk turtles, not to mention many other animals at the GSPCA.”

GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne said Bruce was one of many species in the shelter's care.

“I remember the day we had to collect Bruce and friends and for over five years we have tried our best to find this very large Plecostomus a new home.”

“We love seeing any animal find their forever home and although Bruce didn’t do a lot he has been with us and seen all sorts and we all wish him well with his new owner as well as Mr Ray, Sheldon and Flo.”

“We have lots of animals in need of homes at the GSPCA including fish, turtles, rabbits, guinea pigs, cats, ferrets, degus, a stick insect, cockerel, birds and others.”
