Islanders asked to wear bright tights for gynaecological cancer

Bright Tights Guernsey encourages islanders to wear brightly coloured tights on Friday 5 November to raise awareness and funds for those suffering with gynaecological cancer.

Bright Tights aims to raise awareness of symptoms and support research into better detection and improved treatment of gynaecological cancers.

Support for women diagnosed with a gynae cancer (womb, ovaries, vulva, vagina, and cervix) is wide-ranging and often involves long-term funding for services and supplies. All islanders (men included) are asked to wear tights to raise awareness, because tights cover the area of the body affected by the cancers.

“Bright Tights means no one has to face gynaelogical cancer alone.”

Bright Tights supports women in Guernsey who have had a gynae cancer and are undergoing treatment or starting to recover. They assist in many ways including providing information, practical and financial support, and funding research.

A monthly support group provides an opportunity for people to share experiences, feelings and coping strategies over activities such as walks, painting and relaxing, and one-to-one meetings with the gynaecological cancer support nurse can be arranged to discuss individual needs.

All donations can be paid via www.giving.gg or at any local HSBC branch. For more information visit the website HERE, contact Bright Tights on their Facebook or Twitter accounts or call the helpline on 07781 434550.
