ICYMI: Who do you want on P&R?

Wednesday 02 November 2022

With the election to find a replacement for Deputy Heidi Soulsby on the Policy & Resources Committee due to happen on 23 November, speculation is growing about who might replace her.

Today, Deputy Bob Murray has appeared as a front runner politically, but what about with the public?

The Committee's Vice President - the first woman to hold the position - tendered her resignation last month, citing differences of opinion between herself and some other Committee members.

"It has been obvious for quite a while that my views and advice have not been valued by some on the Committee and I think there is little point in me continuing in the hope that things may get better," said Deputy Soulsby.

She will continue to serve on the Committee until a replacement is elected, which the Committee has said will happen at the States' meeting scheduled to start on 23 November. Until then, Deputy Soulsby will retain full voting and attendance rights as a member of the Committee.

Immediately following Deputy Soulsby's resignation, a flurry of names were mooted as possible replacements for her on P&R.

The names occurring most frequently originally were Deputies Andrea Dudley-Owen and Chris Blin, both deemed to have views aligned with the remaining four members of P&R on a number of issues. Deputies Lyndon Trott and Yvonne Burford were named, with their experience within the States cited as good reasons for them to be appointed. Deputies Liam McKenna and Nick Moakes - both in their first term of office, like Deputy Blin - were also named as likely candidates.

Since then, Deputy Murray has also been mentioned as a likely candidate and he is now considered to be the preferred candidate, most likely to be formally nominated by P&R.

Using the poll below, you can choose your preferred candidate for P&R from the seven likely candidates, or suggest another deputy from the other 28 States members who could be nominated or put themselves forward.
