Hundreds of Santas expected for fun run

Sunday 16 December 2018

The annual Santa Fun Run is on today, with hundreds of adults and children expected to take part to raise money for charity.

It's organised by Linda Garnham of Aid Reaching Children, and raises thousands of pounds each year to support her charity's work overseas.

Starting at the Beach House at Pembroke, the fun run follows a well trodden route into town Via Route Militaire, Les Banques and the High Street.

There is a slight change to the route this year, with the runners asked to follow the path through North Beach car park to the Liberation Monument before crossing at the lights, running around the White Hart pub and then though the Pollet and High Street towards the Town Church.

Any youngsters wanting to take part can start at Bulwer Avenue for a shorter, flat run, in to town.

There is an entry fee for runners who hadn't signed up in advance and any sponsorship money can be handed in at either start line. The longer race starts at 11:30 with check in before 11:00.

The runners will be greeted at the finish line by singers and Ms Garnham herself who will be handing out medals.

She is helped by a number of volunteers who will act as marshals along the route.
