The decision to screen the State Funeral of Queen Elizabeth II was welcomed positively by hundreds of people who headed to Saumarez Park to watch it.

The States of Guernsey decided to arrange for a large screen, two thousand seats, refreshments, and additional toilets at the park ahead of the State event yesterday.

The seats were spaced out in front of the screen with room around it for people to sit on blankets or their own chairs too.

Photographs - captured by Chris George - showed a wide range of ages, with individuals and groups gathered together to watch the funeral of Britian's longest reigning Monarch.

Among the crowd gathered at the park was Deputy Peter Ferbrache, Guernsey's Chief Minister. He had recently returned from a short trip to London where he represented the Bailiwick at the Queen's lying-in-state.

He was with the Bailiff; Richard McMahon, and the Lieutenant Governor. His Excellency, Lieutenant General Richard Cripwell stayed in London to attend the State Funeral Service at Westminister Abbey with his wife.

The Lieutenant Governor also attended Saturday's reception for invited dignitaries from across the world.

Donations were collected for two charities of which Her Majesty was Patron. The Guernsey Branch of the Royal British Legion and the Bailiwick of Guernsey Scouts.

Both organisations had representatives at Saumarez Park to watch the State Funeral, as well as to assist the organisers of the local screening.
