HSC’s Christmas appeal receives record response

More than 800 parcels have been donated to Health and Social Care’s Christmas appeal this year.

The gifts were collected at Castel Hospital earlier this week, ready to be delivered to people in need in Guernsey.

The packages contain welfare items and Christmas gifts, and are given to people receiving support from adult community nurses, the mental health team, the palliative care workers or the adult disability team.

“It has raised awareness of just how many people we provide care for across the community,” said Head of Community Health and Social Care, Karen Leach.

“As the people involved learned from us about the types of gifts that would work best, the generosity of locally based businesses has just grown and grown. It is a magnificent act of community connection.”

“The stories of gratitude from the people we care for and the pleasure it brings our colleagues in delivering the parcels are exactly what makes it a joy to work in community care,” she concluded.
