The team behind the modernisation of the Princess Elizabeth Hospital have "started to engage with local contractors" ahead of the project, but say some aspects of the redevelopment "will undoubtedly require off-island expertise".
The States is seeking expressions of interest from construction firms who are "capable of providing the construction and redevelopment of substantial areas of the Princess Elizabeth Hospital in three phases over the course of the next seven years."
With building work set to commence in July 2021, the States wants to speak to companies who can help deliver the £93m project.
"We are starting to engage with local contractors on this exciting project," said Jan Coleman, Director of Hospital Modernisation.

"Some specialist aspects of the hospital redevelopment will undoubtedly require off-island expertise, but we very much hope as much of the work as possible can be fulfilled and supported by the local construction companies and will benefit the local economy."
The team behind the PEH modernisation programme will "resolve pressing clinical needs" faced by the hospital in its current layout. The programme will be rolled out in phases to enable continuity of hospital services with minimal disruption to the site.
The first phase could cost up to £44m and will include:
The development of the Critical Care Unit into a larger, more flexible unit with an increase from 7 to 12 beds.
A refurbished Post Anaesthesia Care Unit which will be adjacent to the CCU and will provide 10 beds which can be converted to provide increased capacity for critically ill patients or future pandemic demands.
New storage and change facilities for theatres.
Infrastructure works including drainage, medical gases and electricity supply.
The first new clinical areas are due to open in 2022, and all the planned upgrades to the hospital are expected to be completed by 2027.
A Pre-Qualification Questionnaire for phase 1 of the construction is now on the States of Guernsey Procurement Portal.
