Hill and Snowdon to represent Alderney

Sunday 08 December 2024

Political new-comer Edward Hill topped the polls in Alderney's plebiscite to choose its representatives in the States of Guernsey, just weeks after he topped the polls at the island's general election.

Alex Snowdon was returned to his position as Alderney representative, receiving just four fewer votes than the poll topper.

The pair will be officially sworn in to their roles in January before working as part of the States of Deliberation on Bailiwick-wide, and Guernsey-only, decision making processes.

alderney 2024 plebisciteMr Snowdon - who was first elected to the States of Alderney in 2020 - has represented Alderney in Guernsey's States since 2020.

He currently sits on Guernsey's Committee for Health and Social Care.

Steve Roberts had also represented Alderney since 2020, through the December 2020 and 2022 plebiscite elections, but he polled 5th out of 6 yesterday.

Mr Roberts had campaigned on a 'continuity' basis - saying it was vitally important that work currently underway continues, with financial threats to the planned work upgrading Alderney's runway and airport most prominent. Responding to yesterday's result on social media he said he accepted that people had wanted change on this occasion.
