Health Connections closes Bridge shop

Tuesday 08 September 2020

Health Connections is looking for new premises, having announced that its charity shop on the Bridge will be closing its doors after many years of service.

The local charity’s ‘directory to doorstop’ service connected many islanders to the support and information they need to ‘live happier, healthier and more fulfilling lives'.

The Bridge shop was a key part of their operation and a major source of income for the charity. “I am acutely aware of how popular the shop was and the joy it brought to our fabulous team to serve the local Bridge community,” said Health Connections CEO Bella Farrell.

“We will be back as soon as we can find alternative premises.”

A spokesperson thanked the Co-Op, who have provided the space rent-free for many years. It is currently unclear why the shop is closing, but a spokesperson implied it is linked to the society's high-profile and much-delayed Leale's Yard project.

“Whilst the Leale’s Yard development will benefit the community in the longer term, in the short term the charity will miss the revenue it generated to support its core service."

If the Leale's Yard regeneration project were to begin, it is likely that many of the buildings leased by the Co-Op in the area would make way.

The Co-op has been contacted for comment on whether or not the closure of this shop is connected to Leale's Yard.
