Hands off our Cobo!

Thursday 23 May 2019

Hundreds of local people have joined a public social media group, asking that developers keep their "hands off" land around Cobo.

The group was set up after plans for further development in the area were announced.

Last week, the States released a draft development framework for at least five new houses to be built on a plot in Bouverie Lane.

"First we saw the out of character three-story 'Les Residences' flats and then work started on the monstrosity currently being built near the Cobo car park," said a spokesperson for the page. "Now, just across the road developers want to squeeze in as many houses as possible to a small pocket of land adjacent to a quaint Guernsey walking path.

"Not only will continued construction work in the area be disruptive to all beach-goers in the coming years, but the resident community who chose Cobo as their home will have their surroundings, views and privacy overtaken.

"Enough is enough. It is now time to make our feelings known. We do not want our Cobo bay ruined by overdevelopment. Hands off our Cobo!"

The social media page is encouraging local people to like it, request a 'Hands Off' poster and write to the Development and Planning Authority opposing the development.
