Guernsey buses go contactless!

Monday 16 September 2019

Guernsey bus passengers no longer need to worry about digging out change, with local buses now accepting contactless card payments.

CT Plus services will except all contactless cards except American Express, as well as smart-devices like phones and watches.

The change was suggested by Traffic & Highway Services earlier this year, but officially comes into force today.

"We are delighted to be offering our customers the option to purchase their bus tickets by using contactless payments," said Director of the States department, Karl Guille. "It is vital that we update and improve the services we offer in order to meet the needs of our community. With the increased in use of smartphones and smartwatches, we fell it was important to investigate and implement contactless payments.

"It is anticipated that this new payment method will encourage more people to use the bus service by reducing reliance on the need to carry cash."

At the moment, Puffin passes can't be topped up using the contactless service because it might increase boarding times and slow down journeys.

Single tickets and one-day passes can be bought onboard the buses, but seven-day passes will need to be purchased from the Town Terminus shop.
