Guernsey boy goes viral

Tuesday 30 April 2019

A 6-year-old boy from Guernsey has gone viral after capturing the heart of his "hero", motorcycle racer Scott Redding.

Tyler-James Savident spent his Easter weekend watching the British Superbike Championship at Silverstone.

It didn't go quite to plan though when, during Sunday's race, Scott came off his motorbike "right in front of" Tyler-James and his father, James Savident.

"His hero wasn't going to finish the race so he was really upset by it," said his mother, Emma Savident.

Whilst walking back to the car, Tyler-James noticed the racer walking out of his trailer and ran "as fast as he could" to speak to him. On reaching him, Tyler-James gave Scott a "cuddle" and asked if he was alright after the accident.

"He was just really concerned," continued Emma.

Scott was so taken aback by the young boy's kindness that he invited him into the garage, took his knee slider off, signed it and gave it to Tyler-James.

The pair then took a 'selfie' together, which the racer promised to share on social media. Since then Scott's post has received a positive response from tens of thousands of online fans.

"This little boy melted by heart after the race," Scott said. "Running up to me and just cuddled me and said 'Scott are you okay after your crash?'."

Tyler-James is still enjoying the fame and was asked to stand up in assembly at the Vale Primary School to explain his experience to his classmates.

"It's been a bit of a whirlwind since we got back," said Emma.
