Golden Lion gets permanent licence for al fresco benches

Monday 04 June 2018

The Golden Lion has been awarded a licence to keep its picnic benches outside of the front of the premises until September.

They have had them there several times in the past, but only on a temporary basis. Now the pub have said they have ironed out the "little technicalities" and they are allowed to have them there until the end of the summer.

Georgia Stenning, the General Manager of the Golden Lion, said one of the concerns had been whether business traffic could get past the benches to access Market Square, but it has been deemed the benches do not block access.

"We had to apply to leave them out on a daily basis, and permission was granted until September," she said.

"At night we stack them up around the corner - we have to put them away at 23:00 - but obviously over the last couple of months it has been gorgeous weather, so hopefully that continues and people can take advantage of being able to enjoy the outdoors.

"Our mission has been to redefine the feel of [the Golden Lion], and this is very much part of that."
