Charitable habits on the agenda for association AGM

The Association of Guernsey Charities' annual general meeting will take place this evening and local charities are being encouraged to attend.

The meeting, which starts at 19:00 at The Peninsula Hotel, allows the AGC to provide an update on its activities as well as briefing members of matters of interest.

"The AGC organises a range of activities for members each year, including forums and workshops," said Association Chairman Malcolm Woodhams. "This is an opportunity to tell member charities about the organisation and how it is working to help them. The AGC was designed as a democratic organisation for local charities to meet and share ideas, talk about matters of concern and as a means to brief those working in the charitable sector about topics of interest."

The meeting will be followed by a presentation by Island Global Research about its findings in the 2018 survey on charitable giving. The survey asked respondents in Guernsey, Jersey and the Isle of Man about how much they gave to good causes last year, which charities they supported, how they supported them and what would encourage them to give more.

"We are delighted that Island Global Research has agreed to share its results with our members and we are interested to note that they will show some interesting trends, including greater support for local charities over UK or international, and that the public has greater trust and confidence in charities that are locally based," continued Mr Woodhams.
