Girl raising money for Cancer Research with head shave

One month from today, Les Beaucamps High pupil Holly Ann Muir-Field is going to 'brave the shave' and donate all of her hair and thousands of pounds to charity.

14-year-old Holly is feeling very excited with only 30 days to go until the big day when she will have her head shaved in the window of the Cancer Research shop in Le Pollet.

Her mum told Express this is something she has been wanting to do for two-years after doing a local pantomime with a young girl who had Leukaemia. She chose now to finally cut all of her hair off, because someone who means a lot to her family has also been diagnosed with cancer.

Since it was announced on 28 May, Holly has already managed to raise an amazing £1,220 for her cause, and this number continues to go up daily. She is "over the moon" about this as she was only expecting to raise around £400.

Holly's mum said, "we are very proud of her, she is such a caring thoughtful girl." She is also very determined.

"We initially put her off as we thought it was too big a thing for her to do and told her to think of something else but two years later she was still asking," said Penny. "We had a good chat about everything and she was still determined it’s what she wanted to do. As she said it’s only hair, it will grow back eventually - a lot of people with cancer don’t have a choice."

On her fundraising page Holly herself said; "I can't provide a cure but I want to help and so I am shaving and donating my hair so that someone undergoing treatment and who have lost their own hair can feel better in a wig made from my locks."

Holly will be donating more than just the money raised. Her hair, once cut, will be donated to a charity called the Little Princess Trust which provides free, real-hair wigs to children and young people with hair loss due to cancer or other illnesses.

The cut will be on 16 July at 16:00 in the window of the Cancer Research shop in Le Pollet. Holly's family are encouraging people to come along to watch and help raise some more money for this great cause.
