GcMAF accomplice on trial this week

Tuesday 05 February 2019

A man who helped run the company behind GcMAF is on trial in Guernsey's Royal Court this week, on three money laundering charges.

Peter Dawson-Ball, 64, profited from the sale of the unlicensed cancer medicine, as he worked alongside David Noakes, the founder of Immuno Biotech, to have the product manufactured and distributed.

But Mr Dawson-Ball has pleaded not-guilty to the charges on the grounds that he was not aware the business was acting unlawfully, so the court has to decide whether he acted in the knowledge that it was unlawful or not.

It was also made clear in the prosecution's opening statement yesterday that the controversial medicine itself was not on trial. The criminal element came through the lack of proper licensing. Noakes, and therefore Mr Dawson-Ball, knew they were acting without the correct licenses and therefore illegally, it was alleged.

Evidence will be presented this week which the prosecution says will prove the defendant was aware, including telephone conversation transcripts, and a number of witnesses.

The court has already heard how Mr Dawson-Ball was a "name for Noakes to hide behind", because he knowingly had a number of shell companies and bank accounts in his name, but it is believed those accounts were really for the benefit of Noakes and Immuno Biotech.

Also to be sentenced by the court following this trial, is 32-year-old Samata MacPane. She has already pleaded guilty to a smaller number of similar charges to Mr Dawson-Ball, and will be sentenced when his trial is over.

Noakes himself was sentenced to 15 months in prison by Southwark Crown Court towards the end of last year for the creation and supply of an unlicensed medicine and one count of money laundering.

The trial continues...
