Friday night call-out for marine ambulance

Saturday 12 December 2020

The Flying Christine was called to Herm on Friday evening for a patient who needed be transported to the Emergency Department.

The St John marine ambulance, which was manned by a volunteer coxswain, navigator and engineer, and staffed by two emergency ambulance service clinicians, left St Peter Port at around 18:40.

The crew was met at Rosaire Steps by the patient and their family, and following an initial assessment at the scene, the patient was transferred onto the Flying Christine III for the return to Guernsey. Upon their arrival, the patient was taken to the Emergency Department at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital.

This was the third mission for the marine ambulance already this month and one of 23 calls for the Emergency Ambulance Service on Friday. The service also responded to a road traffic collision between a motorcycle and a lorry at Route Carre, St Sampson's on Friday morning. Other incidents included falls, injuries and people who needed help for medical conditions.

The St John marine ambulance is crewed by a team of volunteer skippers and engineers from the local maritime community and staffed by professional clinicians from the Emergency Ambulance Service. The Flying Christine III relies on support from charitable donations, sponsorship and bequests.
