Fraud email targets MSG, but patient data is safe

The Medical Specialist Group has warned islanders about a new wave of fraudulent emails in circulation purporting to be from the group.

Chief Executive, Jon Buckland, said the group became aware of the emails on Friday [29 July] after islanders reported suspicious emails. He has advised that the emails should be deleted immediately.

“We became aware that islanders were receiving emails that were not from an MSG email address but were using the MSG’s name as bait to get them to click on a link to ‘check their appointment details,” said Mr Buckland.

“Our analysis over the weekend has shown that there appears to be no connection with the cyber incident that occurred in December 2021 and there is no evidence that the MSG’s systems have been compromised.  All the emails we have seen are sent by the perpetrators to a @cwgsy.net address. The MSG is only implicated because the email signature is based on an older MSG email footer and disclaimer."

Mr Buckland continued: “Our advice to islanders is to always be alert to any suspicious-looking emails. If you suspect you have received one of these emails, please do not click on any links or open any attachments. Delete it immediately. You can also block the sender. 

“Thank you to the dozens of islanders who have contacted the MSG and we would like to reassure them that their data has not been compromised and apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
