WATCH: CCTV released in hunt for group of vandals

Members of the public are asked to help Guernsey Police identify individuals captured on CCTV footage showing the group who are thought to be responsible for a total of 23 separate incidents of criminal damage.

The damage occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning, as the group moved between Rousse, along Route Carre, through Baubigny and to the Salt Pans.

The group left a wake of smashed up cars, broken greenhouses, destroyed public toilets and more in their path.

"We are appealing to members of the public for their help in identifying who this group are.  Thousands of pounds worth of damage was caused to vehicles and property in a short period of time, and it’s important that we identify those responsible and bring them to justice," Sergeant Lisa Hart of Guernsey Police said.

"We have gathered CCTV footage from the night in question, and we would ask anyone who may be able to identify the individuals who have been captured on film to come forward and let us know.   Information can be called in to our control room directly on 725111, or given anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."

Overall, it’s thought the spate of criminal damage began in the Rousse area where the public toilets were damaged and windows smashed.  Commercial premises in the Route Carre were also targeted and damage was caused to garden furniture and windows along Les Gigands.

15 cars in Lowlands Road and the Saltpans were vandalised with a number of wing mirrors damaged and windows and the windscreen of a vehicle were smashed.

"Criminality such as this is rare in our island, and Guernsey Police realise the importance of bringing the investigation to a successful conclusion to prevent further offending," said Sergeant Hart.

"House to house enquiries have been carried out and we are grateful to members of the public for their assistance with the investigation so far.  We are continuing to appeal to anyone who may have private CCTV cameras in the areas where property and vehicles were targeted to come forward if they haven’t already done so.

"We also know that at least one of the group sustained an injury during the course of the evening – so if anyone knows of someone who may have suffered an unexplained injury over the weekend, we would ask them to get in contact."
