Flurry of applications sees planning play catch-up

Tuesday 23 May 2023

Large numbers of planning and building control applications flowing into the planning department has created registration delays of around three weeks.

The planning service disclosed at the top of its page on gov.gg that the receipt of “several large-scale applications” also contributed to the delays.

It said applications are usually registered within a week of submission.

Officers within the department were redirected from other work to address the backlog, with those efforts beginning to bear fruit.

Planning told Express: “Officers within the team have been concentrating on registration, with other more peripheral tasks directed elsewhere where possible.

As a result, the team is now moving back to normal timescales. In addition, we are currently recruiting to a vacancy in the team and successful completion of this process will ensure that normal timescales are maintained.

Those applying have been asked to not chase the progress of their applications to not generate further delays.
