St John Ambulance has donated first aid kits to a local environment charity in support of its new year-long litter picking project.

The Clean Earth Trust has organised ‘Womble 52', which aims to get 52 local businesses signed up for a week of cleaning up rubbish, so that somebody is always "wombling for Guernsey".

The first aid kit will be part of a wombling pack given to each business to assist their efforts, along with gloves, black sacks and litter picking tools.

Gina Gooding, Commercial Manager for St John, hopes the organisation's support will encourage more companies to sign up for the initiative.

“We are only too pleased to provide a first aid kit free of charge to support the work of the Clean Earth Trust,” she said. “While we hope it isn’t needed, it is important to be prepared to cope with minor injuries when taking part in outdoor activities like this.”

Andrew Munro of the Clean Earth Trust said that the first aid kit will be an "incredibly useful" addition to the pack, which is passed from business to business over the course of the year.

The charity organises a number of other environmental initiatives, including the Repair Café and Toy Hospital, which help people to repair broken products, and encourage a change of perception about items that might otherwise be thrown away.

First aid kits and other products are available from the St John shop on the Rohais.
