Duty officer came across one fire on the way to another

Tuesday 14 September 2021

A duty officer tackled a vehicle fire with a garden hose - after spotting the Epinelle Road blaze on the way to a house fire in Church Road.

Both fires happened at around 23:00 last night. Three fire engines and police officers were sent to Church Road, St Sampson’s, following reports of a fire inside a property.

It was on the way to that call-out that a duty officer – in their own car – drove past a vehicle that was alight in Epinelle Road.

The officer used a garden hose to help stem the fire while he waited for another fire crew to arrive.

Meanwhile, firefighters were also on scene in Church Road, putting out the fire inside one of the flats in a terraced building.

That blaze was brought under control quickly, however officers remained on scene at Church Road until 01:00 in the morning in order to make sure the area was safe

A spokesman for Bailiwick Law Enforcement said a vehicle in Epinelle Road had been completely burnt out, but did not detail the damage to the Church Road property.

The vehicle fire is under investigation.
