The organisers have said it is "due to the high winds we are experiencing this week, that are not due to drop until the middle next week".

Those winds are due to reach gale force 7 during the planned set up times, and then increase further to gale force 9 over the weekend meaning it would be too dangerous for those involved in running the event and those attending.

The EDABL Seafront Sunday was meant to be the finale of a week-long series of events which have been underway celebrating local produce and establishments. It is only the weekend events which are now not happening. 

“It is incredibly disappointing that we have had to make this decision,” said Charlotte Dickson, Chair of the EDABL Committee, “however, the safety of our stallholders, food concessions and the general public has to be our primary concern. The build of the marquees and the music stage was due to start on Friday afternoon, when the current predicted winds of gale force 6-7 is right on the safety limit to build, and overnight on Saturday and into Sunday the wind is due to rise to a gale force 9 so everything would have to be taken down."

The decision was made on Wednesday so that the other people involved in running the event had as much notice as possible.

"The decision has been made today because we want to give enough notice to our stallholders and food concessions to limit any expenses that they have or will incur for the event," said Ms Dickson. "We have had fantastic support from a wide range of stallholders over our four Seafront Sundays this year and we very much look forward to working with them all again in the 2020 season.

"I would also like to thank the EDABL Committee for all their hard work behind the scenes in putting the Festival week together. We are halfway through a week of events celebrating local producers and products which have all been incredibly well supported. We also have lots of new ideas and are excited to start planning the EDABL 2020 programme of events.”
