Final day for clothes shop

Saturday 12 January 2019

Guernsey's Miss Selfridge branch will close for good today, after operating costs overtook sales.

Run as a concession by Creasey's, the decision to close the shop was taken off island by Arcadia Group, which is the parent company of Miss Selfridge and other familiar high street brands including Wallis, Burton and Dorothy Perkins.

As it's a concession, Creasey’s provides the shop premises and covers all operational costs except for the staff, who are directly employed by the Arcadia Group.

Earlier this week, Creasey's Ltd Managing Director, Peter Creasey, said all of the staff are believed to "have found new jobs, or are in the process of attending interviews."

He said the shop only employed a few people, including its Saturday team.

Mr Creasey said the decision to close the local Miss Selfridge branch was made after a "thorough review of business."

He said; “we have enjoyed a long relationship with the Miss Selfridge brand.  However turnover has been declining in recent years as operating costs have risen and we have had to take the difficult decision to close this concession.  At this stage we are marketing the premises to attract a new tenant.  This is a key site in the Commercial Arcade, right in the centre of Town, and I am confident we will find a new tenant very quickly.”

The top floor of the shop is already closed, with the remaining stock on sale on the ground floor as staff prepare to empty the store.

Any enquiries regarding the premises should be directed to Terry Gardiner at Savills (tel 742280).
