Express yourself at Arts' Seafront Sunday

Sunday 10 June 2018

Today is the Arts Guernsey Seafront Sunday, where people are being urged to visit the Town Seafront and express themselves in a variety of different ways.

The event is themed around that line - expressing yourself - and the Guernsey Arts Commission have teamed up with Guernsey MIND and the School of Popular Music to encourage everyone to think about the benefits of creativity on good mental health.

Stall holders and performers will be supporting the theme through the day, with five music stages, one dance and one drama stage, over 100 other stalls all set to be there.

"The island is blessed with many talented artists, musicians and organisations across the breadth of the arts. Recognising this, the Guernsey Arts Commission (GAC) was keen to establish a platform where this vast and wide ranging talent could be brought together and celebrated," a spokesperson for the event said.

"When we were offered the opportunity of the Town seafront by Culture and Leisure in 2011 as part of their Seafront closure initiative, we saw this as the perfect environment to create a relaxed, inclusive day that would be fun and allow the people of Guernsey and visitors to enjoy, participate in and recognise the importance of the arts to the island."

Among the arts & crafts, books and food stalls, the alfresco dining and all of the different performances, there is also set to be a stall with the first details about this year's North Show. People will be able to find out more about the 2018 Battle of Flowers and given a chance to practice making some of the paper flowers that appear on the floats.

"Come along, put on your creativity hat and have a god at something new. You might find a new way to express yourself."

The Town Seafront will be closed all day to accommodate the event, which is the second in this year's Seafront Sunday series. Last weeks was the GSPCA's animal event, and next week will see Taste Guernsey convert the seafront into a food festival.
