Blue Islands has said it is going to run an extra 78 flights to Southampton during the summer months, as it aims to offer even more choice to people flying to the airport.

Now being used for a whole host of reasons, whether it be medical trips, travelling to London or just visiting the south coast, people in Guernsey are flying to Southampton more and more according to recent data.

Aurigny and Blue Islands both currently fly to the airport, and Blue Islands has now announced it is running extra flights through the summer.

"We are proud to have operated our Guernsey – Southampton service since 2007 serving over 800,000 passengers including leisure and business travellers, visitors to our island and sporting customers, as well as providing a reliable, high-frequency service for those travelling for essential medical purposes," Rob Veron, CEO of Blue Islands, said.

The airline - which is a franchise partner of Flybe's - usually provides up to 64 weekly flights between Guernsey and Southampton with up to five flights each way per day. Between 29 June and 26 September it has scheduled an extra 78 flights on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

"As well as travelling to the South Coast, customers are increasingly choosing Blue Islands operated Guernsey – Southampton services for easy protected connections to UK and European destinations across the wider Flybe network thanks to Southampton Airport’s single terminal and one booking at flybe.com," Mr Veron added.

“Additional Southampton flights not only provide greater options for travel to central London and opportunities for onward UK and European connections via Southampton Airport, they enable added convenience and flexibility for those travelling to Southampton to access health services.”

To try and sweeten its deal, Blue Islands is offering its customers a £36 anytime return ticket on the train from Southampton to Waterloo.
