A fresh call has been made for candidates to come forward and stand in Alderney's upcoming by-election.
There weren't enough candidates to hold an election at the last by-election in November of last year, and there are some concerns that a by-election due to be held in February may also fail to meet democratic demands.
There is a vacant seat on the ten-strong States of Alderney after the November election was cancelled when only four people stood for election. There were five seats available so each of the four were elected unopposed.
Elections take place every two years for half of the Assembly with successful candidates serving for four years.
A by-election to fill the final seat is likely to be held on Saturday 18 February if the States agree.
The recent uncontested election led to some concerns raised by sitting States Members including Alex Snowdon.

Returning Officer Liz Maurice is hopeful that people will come forward for election, saying it is a challenge but one that can be embraced for the community.
“We are hoping that a number of candidates will come forward to make this a properly contested election.
“It’s a new year with a new States and a full agenda of business to take Alderney forward, and I would encourage those with a contribution to make to step up in these challenging times.”

The States of Alderney meets next Wednesday (January 11) when the current nine Members will be asked to confirm the by-election date of Saturday February 18.
If that date is confirmed, nominations would need to be received during the seven days ending at 16:00 on Friday February 3.
The Polling Station is in the Island Hall in Royal Connaught Square and will be open for voting on Election Day between 09:30 and 18:30.
A booklet entitled ‘How Government Works’ is available to potential candidates at the Island Hall’s General Office and potential candidates are encouraged to talk to present States Members regarding the role they would be taking on.
