Early start for record hunters

Saturday 13 April 2019

Music fans have been up with the lark today queuing up at what is now the island's only music shop, Vinyl Vaughan on Fountain Street, for national Record Store Day.

It's the third time the shop has hosted a Record Store Day event to purchase exclusive releases along with hundreds of record stores nationwide.

For those who camped outside this morning from 07:30 the benefits weren't only being first to the special Record Store Day releases. Bacon rolls and tea were served up to the dedicated shoppers and the first 20 through the door were given a special Fred Perry tote bag.

Speaking before the event, Vaughan Davies, owner of Vinyl Vaughan anticipated another busy year as sales at the shop have gone from "strength to strength".

"We had nearly 200 people last year queuing right around the road," he said (pictured above).

Collectors will have signed up for special request forms on over 500 limited edition releases only available on the day. It's anticipated that the event will see a sell-out the limited edition releases and an uptake on the sales of usual stock as well.

There will be some records released early on the day, such as a special double LP from X-Ray Spex for which there will only be a few hundred copies available to buy before general release. There'll also be Record Store Day Exclusives such as the Alternative Fleetwood Mac album which will be limited to 12500 copies worldwide featuring early takes from across the Fleetwood Mac back catalogue.

The shop will be open until late in order to satisfy demand.
