TrustFord has secured planning permission for a new dealership in Guernsey, allowing the business to bring all its services under one roof.

Operations are currently split between Sales at La Grange and Aftersales at Longue Hougue, with all operations not set to be moved to the St Sampson's site.

Work is expected to start around May, before opening later this year, according to Chairman and Chief Executive of TrustFord Stuart Foulds.

“The progression of the plans, first submitted back in October, is transformative for us," he said.

"The new consolidated site at Longue Hougue will give us the additional scale to meet our customers’ needs, allowing our colleagues on the island deliver the excellent service that they’re known for.”

Permission has been granted to install a portacabin to accompany the sale and display of motor vehicles at the Bulwer Avenue site and to form a new access point onto Longue Hougue lane.

Initially, it was proposed that this access lane would be located on to the roundabout to the south-east of the site. However this was ruled out as it conflicted with the use of the adjacent weighbridge and raised road safety concerns.

It has since been revised to the western end of the site, enabling Guernsey Waste to endorse the final plans.

A spokesman for the firm said: "Guernsey Waste is now content that the revised plan for access to Trust Ford’s proposed car sales area represents the best solution for access to this site for this purpose, with the only conditions being that the proposed crossroads created by the new access has the appropriate traffic control and signage to ensure it is kept clear of traffic at all times, and that this does not become the main access route to Trust Ford’s other activities at that site."
