Queues expected on day two of HMV clearance today

Saturday 06 April 2019

HMV's Mega Clearance Sale is continuing for a second day today, running from 09:00 until 17:00 this evening.

Bailiwick Estates, the company running the Market Building, hosted the sale on Thursday, offering people the opportunity to "bag themselves a bargain" as they looked to totally clear out HMV's stock.

Sonia Taylor from Bailiwick Estates said the first day had gone very well: "the doors will again open at 09:00 on Saturday for a second day of the clearance sale. We estimate in excess of 900 people came through the doors last night (Thursday)."

At the Thursday sale, there was a queue outside of the building stretching back to the Golden Lion pub at times.

Not only is the stock of HMV on sale, but so are the shop's fittings.

Cards are not being accepted for payment, but items such as PS4s, CD's, Nintendos, Xboxs, Turn Tables, clothes and vinyl are all available, with the plan for everything to be cleared by the end of the day.

HMV itself closed after the national company was bought out earlier in the year, and the Guernsey store was one of a number earmarked for closure. Just the next day, there were chains across the door.

What Bailiwick Estates will put in the unit next is yet to be known, but they are currently in the middle of renovating the inner market street, with plans to reinvigorate it with a number of shop stalls.
