Cause of new covid case unknown

Tuesday 20 October 2020

Another case of covid-19 has been identified in the Bailiwick, the source of which isn't "immediately obvious".

All of the most recent cases have been related to travel, but Public Health hasn't been able to identify the origin of the latest case yet.

"It is unusual to pick up a case of covid-19 in the Bailiwick where the source is not immediately obvious," said Director of Public Health, Dr Nicola Brink.

"However, our track and trace team have robust and well-tested processes in place so it should not be long before the exact details are established."

The case was picked up late yesterday, just hours after the island became covid free once again.

"I am aware that an employer associated with the positive case identified has chosen to close their office in line with their own policies," Dr Brink added. "I respect the fact that companies have their own policies and procedures regarding covid-19."

The Public Heath team is working with the individual concerned and contact tracers are working to establish the source.

Anyone identified as a potential contact will be contacted by the track and trace team.

Those who haven't been contacted are asked not to get in touch with Public Health or the covid helplines to ask for more information.
