The States of Guernsey have set up an appeal, asking anyone who is able to donate what they can to support frontline workers as well as businesses and individuals who are struggling financially.

The Covid-19 Response Appeal has been set up following enquiries from many people, organisations and companies, asking how they can help to fund medical equipment and the new hardship schemes.

The appeal will collect donations for all areas of the States' response to the pandemic and distribute them in order of need.

"We've been touched by the approaches we've had from people who want to make a contribution, very much in the spirit of 'Guernsey Together'," said President of Policy & Resources, Deputy Gavin St PIer.

"The States cannot be reliant on such donations for the funding of key public services, even in this extraordinary time and for this extraordinary reason, but they certainly are very welcome.

"The reality is the financial impact of this pandemic is something that was clearly never envisaged in the Budget and is already putting big demands on public finances. Given the challenges we all now share as a community, we would be very happy for those who want to make a financial contribution to our frontline services and to their fellow islanders, to do so through this appeal."

Donations can be made by online transfer to:

The Response Appeal isn't the only way to support the island though, with another newly formed appeal asking for donations to the Bailiwick's charities.

"Our ability to get through this incredibly difficult period depends in many ways on the services provided by charities, who are often the best placed organisations to respond to some of the new issues that the pandemic throws up," said Chair of the Social Investment Fund, Jurat Stephen Jones OBE.

"Making sure they have the funds they need to survive and respond to this crisis is essential. So, we're now appealing to the community who want to support the third sector, to do that through this appeal. That way we can work with our local partners and charities to identify where the funds are best directed."
