Condor launches environmental competition

Wednesday 02 October 2019

Local students have the chance to win £1,000 of travel vouchers in a video challenge launched by Condor.

Guernsey and Jersey pupils in further education can submit entries, which must raise awareness of environmental issues and highlight the need to protect the islands' marine and coastal ecosystem.

"Everyone is much more aware and passionate about environmental issues these days, so by linking up with local students, who are the future generation of environmentalists, they can help champion the cause for the islands," said Condor's Community Officer, Tracy Peters. "We would also like to see such initiatives form part of future learning programmes."

The short films should illustrate the consequences of and potential solutions to the problem of marine litter, fitting in with the company's own policy of mitigating its environmental impact.

Entries can be up to two minutes long and must be in by 31 January 2020.

Vouchers worth £1,000 all be awarded to the best entry in each island and the finalised footage will be shown onboard the company's ships next year.

Students can enter by contacting tracy.peters@condorferries.co.uk.

The ferry company has pledged to reduce plastic waste in circulation by 75% by 2021 and is replacing one million single-use items on board its ships this year.
