Condor confirms negative test “not a requirement” to travel

Friday 12 March 2021

Passengers on Liberation and Rapide will not have to produce a negative Covid-19 test result when sailings restart, the company has confirmed.

Anyone aiming to travel on Condor’s high-speed vessels between the Channel Islands, the UK and France when schedules resume will not need a negative test result in the 72 hours before their sailing.

Condor is aiming for a 21 May resumption in high-speed services, and believes this move will encourage people to travel and help boost the visitor economies as jurisdictions start to relax travel and quarantine restrictions.

Passengers on conventional vessels – Commodore Clipper and the freight-only Commodore Goodwill – still need a negative test within 72 hours of departure "to safeguard freight supplies".

Elwyn Dop, Condor’s Operations Director, said: “The encouraging news of a reduction in cases and a ramping-up of vaccinations in the UK has provided us with the confidence that these tests will not be needed for travel on our passenger ferries when we restart, although we will retain this requirement on Clipper and Goodwill.”

Testing by Public Health authorities on arrivals in Guernsey and Jersey is unchanged by Condor’s decision and passengers should check entry requirements for all countries to which they are travelling. For people coming to Guernsey with an essential travel permit, that means mandatory 14-day self-isolation as the rules stand.
