"Community seeding rumours are false"

Tuesday 29 September 2020

HSC has moved to extinguish rumours of a confirmed case of community seeding on the island, saying the claims are based on a "misunderstanding".

Rumours have been circulating today that there had been a case of Covid-19 arising from community seeding.

In their response, Health & Social Care have attributed these rumours to a misunderstanding. They reiterated that both active cases on the island are travel-related.

"We are aware of rumours circulating on social media that there is a confirmed case of community seeding on island which has resulted in a number of people contacting Public Health with their concerns.

"It appears this has resulted from a misunderstanding. An individual believed that a friend had been identified as a ‘positive case’ when they had not. We can confirm that no positive cases have been identified in the last 48 hours in the Bailiwick.

"In these circumstances Public Health would contact anyone who needed to be in isolation to advise them to do so."
