Sark's Electricity Price Control Commissioner is looking to impose a legal cap on the price of power.
Following a full investigation and analysis into the cost of providing electricity on Sark, Dr Anthony White has now published a proposal to cap the cost of electricity at 53p per unit.
The present price charged by Sark's sole electricity supplier, Sark Electricity Limited (SEL), is 85 pence per unit, an amount suspected to be the highest in the developed world.
Dr White said he had come to the preliminary view that 53 pence per unit would be sufficient to enable SEL to provide secure supplies of electricity while providing a reasonable return for its business.
"The decision to consider a legally enforceable Price Control Order (PCO) follows a lengthy process throughout 2019 of investigation and consultation not only with SEL but electricity consumers and other interested parties," he said in a statement to the media.

Dr White will now seek representations from SEL, residents and other interested parties. He will then decide whether there is a need to issue a legally enforceable Price Control Order.
If he decides to go ahead with the cap, it is expected to come into force on the 1 January 2020.
