Come sail with us...

Sunday 19 July 2020

Adults and children of all ages are being encouraged to enjoy time out on the open seas around the island this summer.

The Guernsey Sailing Trust recently held an open day allowing people to find out more about the trust's fleet of boats and the courses that are delivered.

"The point of today is to raise awareness and show the public our fleet of boats and what we offer," said Clare Chapple from the Guernsey Sailing Trust.

"We have three full-time staff and around 50 instructors, from 14 years of age, helping out. It has been really good and the pontoon was full at one point."

The trust had to suspend all of its training and sailings sessions in March until July because of the coronavirus pandemic.

"Lockdown hit right at the start of our season," said Ms Chapple.

"We can offer everything from power boating to slower sailing," said Ms Chapple.

"It is a great activity for all the family. You get a totally different aspect of the island when you look at in from the coastline."

There are also disability-friendly boats among the trust's fleet.
