Eighth case identified in covid cluster

Monday 26 October 2020

Another person has tested positive for covid-19 after being contact traced by the Public Health team in its attempts to contain a cluster of cases - the cause of which still hasn't been confirmed.

An eighth case was discovered over the weekend using the track and trace system.

The person had been identified as a contact and was already in self-isolation.

The first patient in the cluster tested positive early last week during a pre-travel screening. They hadn't been outside of the Bailiwick in the two weeks prior to their test and weren't aware of where they had picked up the virus.

Since then, Public Health has tested hundreds of their contacts - which led to some new cases being identified - and the team is still working to establish the source of the cluster.

All eight active covid cases in the Bailiwick are linked to the cluster - something Dr Nicola Brink recently described as "reassuring".

"There is no need for anyone to be concerned - everything is under control," President of the CCA, Deputy Peter Ferbrache said during Friday's media briefing. "No one needs to worry and everything is being dealt with and no new measures are being introduced at this stage."
