Cliff rescue at Jerbourg

Wednesday 20 May 2020

Guernsey's volunteer lifeboat crew joined police officers to search for, and then rescue a woman trapped beneath a bunker at Jerbourg point yesterday afternoon.

The lifeboat crew spent an hour at sea with both the All Weather Lifeboat and the Inshore Lifeboat launched.

The first call was made to the St Peter Port Lifeboat at 14:15, with the crew launching within minutes.

They were told to head for Jerbourg where someone had phoned the emergency services to say they were 'trapped on the cliff at Jerbourg Point'.

Before full details of the exact position could be established, communication was lost meaning Guernsey Police officers were searching the path while the lifeboat crew searched the sea and bays.

Both vessels went to the scene and a crew member on board the Inshore Lifeboat saw the casualty waving at them from the area below one of the German bunkers at Jerbourg point at around 14:53.

One of the crew went ashore and managed to reach the woman who was escorted back to the cliff path where she needed treatment by paramedics for minor injuries.

Both lifeboats were back at the harbour at 15:20.
