Citizens Advice needs new CEO to keep going

Sunday 21 October 2018

The Chairperson of a leading local charity has highlighted the importance to the island of finding the right person to succeed its long-serving CEO.

Mr Steve Hogg, Chairperson of Citizens Advice Guernsey, explained that the charity is recruiting to fill a key role.

"Our CEO, Kate Raleigh, has worked tirelessly for more than 25 years to build the bureau’s capacity and reputation," Mr Hogg said.

"Her achievements are truly remarkable, and she is an extremely tough act to follow, but she will be standing down next year so we are recruiting for her successor."

Mr Hogg added that it was important that the right person is found to fill the paid, part-time post.

"I’m pleased to say that we have already had some enquiries, but it really matters to Guernsey that we identify the best person to lead the charity into this next phase of its development."

For CAG, Mr Hogg said this was so important to the charity because they were a public service that people need to use an increasing amount.

Citizens Advice help people with employment issues, housing issues, discrimination, debt, relationships and health, all in a confidential and free manner. It handled more than 10,500 enquiries last year, from more than 4,000 clients. The charity’s trained volunteers worked 22,000 hours, with an equivalent monetary value of more than £306,000.

Mr Hogg said if they were forced to stop that service, it would be a loss to Guernsey.

"The volunteers, the training and the fundraising are all essential to what we do, but the whole service can only come together and deliver if the right person is leading it.  It’s probably one of the most important third sector appointments in the Bailiwick, so we have to get this right," he said.

To find out more about the vacancy, contact the Citizens Advice Guernsey admin line 242734 or download a recruitment pack from citizensadvice.org.gg/recruitment. Applications for the position close on Friday 26 October 2018.
