Churches hold out for phase 5

Saturday 06 June 2020

Many Church services continue to be streamed online as large congregations mean public services can't yet be held in person.

Gatherings of up to 30 people can be held, so long as names and phone numbers are collected for contact tracing purposes incase of any positive cases of covid-19 locally.

As many church services continue to attract more than 30 people the majority continue to be streamed online so social distancing can be maintained.

The Bailiwick's Catholic Church has said it is holding some weekday masses in person at St Joseph's Church while Sunday Mass is only being held virtually.

St Joseph's Church is open for daily individual prayer, while the other churches in Guernsey remain closed. Further details are available HERE

The Town Church is also open for daily individual prayer with masses being streamed online, as detailed HERE

The leadership team at Vazon Elim Church said they have decided to look forward to phase 5 and the opportunities it might present before commencing Sunday services there too.

Senior Pastor of the church, Matt Gregor said they would need to run multiple services on a Sunday to be able to gather groups of thirty, and at this stage they feel that it is better to concentrate on small groups meeting via Zoom and on the online Livestream each Sunday at 10:45 via YouTube.

“We are so excited about the online congregation that are tuning in each week, many times more than the capacity of our building, and we want people to feel as safe as possible when they come.”

Associate Pastor, Eric Gaudion, said a large number of people have been watching online services in the UK as well, or searching for ‘prayer’ in search engines.

"There does seem to be widespread interest in finding out more about God’s love and help at times like this," he said. "The church is so much more than its buildings. In that sense it has never closed."
