Christmas skating returns to Guernsey

Friday 19 October 2018

Ice Skate Guernsey is returning to Le Friquet Garden Centre for even longer this year, from Saturday 1 December to Sunday 6 January 2019.

Located in the centre, with the entrance via the Christmas department, Ice Skate Guernsey said it will also offer free parking, a fully operational café and restaurant plus Santa’s Grotto.

Up to 130 skaters will all be able to have a go at the same time, during each forty five minute session. With more than 400 pairs of skates available for hire, including the smallest sizes for small children and up to size 13 for adults, there should be plenty to go around. And this year there'll also be more 'Skate Aids', in the form of penguins, bears and seals, for children under the age of eight as well.

The ice rink is also designed to be accessible for wheel chair users and the ice rink will be supervised by trained Ice Skate Guernsey staff at each session.

“We are delighted that Ice Skate Guernsey is returning for its third year to Le Friquet, Guernsey’s premier destination for families and Christmas shopping,” said James Robin, Centre Manager. “Ice Skate Guernsey offers a unique dimension to our overall shopping experience in December and this will now be extended into the first week of January before the schools start again. The theme of Skate, Shop & Enjoy encapsulates what every adult and child can look forward to at this year’s Ice Skate Guernsey.”

Adult tickets are £9.50 each and children’s tickets (under the age of 14 years) are £7.50 each.

Tickets will be available From Friday 19 October, from Le Friquet Garden Centre or on line via the Ice Skate Guernsey website.

The rink will be open seven days a week throughout December with the first session at 10:00 and the last session at 19:00 with the exception of Christmas Eve on Monday 24 December and New Year’s Eve on Monday 31 December when the last skating session will be at 15:00 with Le Friquet Garden Centre closing to the public at 16:00 on both dates.

Ice Skate Guernsey will also be closed, along with Le Friquet Garden Centre on Christmas Day and Boxing Day (Tuesday 25 and Wednesday 26 December respectively) and New Year’s Day on Tuesday 1 January 2019.

Group bookings and exclusive hire of the ice rink are available for companies, charities, schools and community groups wishing to bring a group down to Ice Skate Guernsey.

Ice Skate Guernsey is a joint venture between Le Friquet Garden Centre, owned by Blue Diamond Group, and The Guernsey Event Company Ltd that are specialists in large outdoor events.
