Children's Library gets a boost

A UK charity has donated a 'wish list' of books to the Guille-Allès Children's Library in celebration of a milestone.

Worldwide Action's founder, Graeme Howell, was born in Guernsey and was keen to mark his 50th birthday by going back to his roots and supporting the local library.

Librarians working at the Guille-Allès were asked to come up with a list of children's books they would like to see in the newly-refurbished library, which the charity then bought on their behalf.

The new books cover a wide range of topics including science, exploration and adventure.

"A good book helps to educate and stimulate a young mind and allows children to imagine a world way beyond their current physical environment," said Mr Howell. "I hope these books provide children with knowledge, insight and most of all enjoyment."

Mr Howell founded Worldwide Action in response to Nepal's major earthquake in 2015. Since then, the charity has focused on the welfare and wellbeing of children and young people - building classrooms and supplying textbooks to schools in Nepal, Cambodia and elsewhere.

"We are over the moon to have received this generous donation and we're immensely grateful to Worldwide Action," said Children's Librarian Cornelia James. "They do tremendous work all around the world and it's humbling that they thought of including us in their efforts."

More information on the local Children's Library is available here.
